To foster the enjoyment of children's literature and to promote its value throughout the community.
◦To encourage children’s reading skills and enjoyment, both for recreational and study purposes
◦To recognise the importance of children’s literature in children’s overall language development
◦To improve the range and quality in children’s books
◦To disseminate information to children, parents, teachers, librarians and the community in general about children’s books and reading
◦To promote informed discussion and debate on children’s books and reading
◦To give national recognition to authors, illustrators and publishers of children’s books
◦To support interest groups with an affinity for literature in the fields of performing and graphic arts
◦To explore the implications of sociological and technological change for children’s literature and reading
